Our History
In 1998, the Parents of Suicides support group began on the Internet, and then in 2001, the Friends and Families of Suicides group joined it, creating the POS-FFOS Internet Community. The community is entirely comprised of people who have lost someone they care about to suicide, connecting and finding support and comfort from the connection.
On April 15, 2001, volunteers from the POS-FFOS Internet Community set up the virtual memorial wall to honor the memory of the people they had lost to suicide.
How long has this site been active?
The virtual Suicide Memorial Wall has been preserving names so people will be remembered since April 15, 2001.
Who tends to the names and photos on these sites?
This site – and our sister site, Faces of Suicide – are both tended to by volunteers from the POS-FFOS Internet Community (Parents of Suicides and Friends and Families of Suicides).
How are the entries displayed?
The names on the virtual Suicide Memorial Wall are organized into 24 sections, while the photos in the Gallery are placed in albums. All entries are carefully archived to ensure every individual is honored with dignity.
Who may submit a name or photo?
Family members or friends of the person to be remembered may submit entries. You may be asked to provide an obituary or news article as verification to maintain the integrity of the memorial.
Can I use the content on my own website?
No. All names, pictures, and personal content are the property of the people who submitted them.
